User Stories: How Blake King Conquered the Arizona Wilds on Two Wheels

For Blake King, a bike isn’t just a hobby—it’s a multi-tool. Whether he’s navigating his daily commute, enjoying a leisure cruise, or deep in the backcountry for a hunting and camping expedition, Blake expects his gear to keep up with a lifestyle that refuses to stay on the pavement.

Recently, Blake took his dual-motor e-bike into the heart of the Arizona mountains for a four-day elk hunt, putting the machine through a "trial by fire"—or more accurately, a trial by water and incline.

The Dual-Motor Advantage

In the vertical world of mountain hunting, gravity is the enemy. Blake found that the dual-motor system gave him a distinct "upper hand" on steep grades that would stall a standard bike. But it wasn't just the raw power that impressed him; it was the efficiency.

"I was blown away by the battery management on the hills," Blake says. "I did a 15 to 16-mile stretch on some serious grades, and the drain was minimal." In fact, Blake was so prepared for a power struggle that he hauled his charger along for his four-day elk hunt. The result? He never even plugged it in. The bike’s internal efficiency handled the mountain demands without needing a mid-trip top-off.

Weathering the Storm

Arizona mountain weather is famously unpredictable. During his hunt, Blake was caught in a heavy downpour that turned the trails into a sodden mess. At one point, he encountered an 18-inch deep puddle—a daunting obstacle for any piece of electronics.

"I’ll admit, I was worried," Blake recalls. "You see that much water and you start thinking about the battery and the wiring getting soaked." But the bike didn't flinch. He powered through the water and the rain with zero electrical issues, proving that the "weather-resistant" label on his rig was more than just marketing speak.

The Hunter’s Critique: Room for Improvement

Even a seasoned rider like Blake sees room for evolution. While he loves the versatility of switching between dual and single motor modes to save power or gain traction, the interface left him wanting more.

Currently, switching modes requires him to stop the bike and navigate through the digital display menus—a process he finds cumbersome when he’s on the move. "I’d prefer it to be simpler," he notes. "A quick-access switch would make transitioning from a flat logging road to a vertical climb much more fluid."

Despite the menu-diving, Blake’s experience has solidified the e-bike as his go-to mountain vehicle. From the daily commute to the silence required for a successful elk hunt, his bike has proven to be a reliable, waterproof, and incredibly efficient partner in the wild.
